Every other year, we can’t wait for summer. Schools close their doors for up to 2 months, depending on your school district. It’s the perfect time to relax, play and travel. This year, many families won’t have this luxury. It’s already very hot and with social distancing in place, many still avoid public places. Plus, not every water park or library is yet open. Last week was the final episode of The Block. 6 couples transformed a home, garden and garage over 6 weeks. The journey and the results were incredible. My friend’s husband decided to start his own DIY renovation. A day before the in-laws arrived, he decided their living room needed painting. You can see what’s coming. A large part of the house in DIY chaos and additional stress for my friend. We’re taking her experience as an inspiration for organised and stress-free DIY.
“We spend so much money entertaining our kid every weekend.” It was the amount of a family’s food budget! As much as we love our little ones, most of us don’t have an unlimited pot of money. For those of you who are on a “no spend” week or month, this sounds like a crazy story. There are so many ways to spend time with your kid without spending money:
It’s almost Spring and you can smell it. People are getting excited about the warmer temperatures and being able to enjoy the outdoors. It’s the time to start again – fresh! This week, we’re continuing our spring cleaning and we’re taking on the living room. Get it ready for you and your family but also for your friends to come visit (unannounced).

While the famous UCLA study on clutter has been conducted in 2012, not much has changed. If we know that clutter creates anxiety and makes us feel overwhelmed, why aren’t we doing more to control the chaos in our home, office and life?
This year, we’re taking it super easy with Christmas. There won’t be any presents, just a trip for a few days with the loved ones (guess that’s a gift in itself). We won’t have to worry special meals or special entertainment. It will be very relaxed and we’re looking forward to it.

Recently, I followed a lively debate on social media. Should children get Christmas presents or not?
The same question could be asked for anyone. Do we need to give presents on a specific date, just because it’s that day? Like many during that debate, I’d say no. Society almost forces us to give on Christmas Day, birthday days, Diwali, wedding anniversaries, Eid, Valentine’s Day, you name it. Shouldn’t we rather give when we want to?
But let’s stick to the question for children.
Do you sometimes look around your home and think: “I can’t believe I spent money on this.” Just like you spent money on it, declutter and make money of it again! The beauty of letting go what no longer serves your needs, it may still be of value for someone else. If it’s in good shape, why not sell it?
