Benefits of a garage sale

Get on a high note decluttering

It’s the second week of 2017 and you know what that means. Exactly, most people are still on their high to make their resolutions stick this time! “This is the year I’ll change – no more excuses!” This is one of my clients who’s preparing for his first garage sale already!

For him, a garage sale is a deadline. A deadline to start the letting go of all the stuff he doesn’t use or need. But it’s also an opportunity, well, actually 4 opportunities:

Last week, we started looking into the fridge, giving it a good cleaning and getting rid of expired foods. Now, let’s check out your pantry.

Clean your fridge

What’s alive in your fridge?

How does your fridge look by the end of the week? I do most of my grocery shopping on the weekends. There’s more time, we can hit the supermarket while many are still eating breakfast and how wonderful is it to re-stock the fridge. Plenty of healthy food and yes, some naughty snacks are most often found on weekends, too.

While we all fill our fridge throughout the week, who of us actually cleans it? Here are my top 6 tips for a clean fridge.

Clean for just a day

Find your cleaning angel and control the dirt devil in your home

2017 is only 49 days away from today and like many, I’m making the remainder of 2016 count. Unfortunately, little trivial things do get in the way. Cleaning tops that list for me!

I was laughing so hard when I then watch Modern Family this weekend. Claire, one of the characters, was getting ready to start a new job and enlisted her entire family of 5 to clean their house. It was funny to watch them struggle like so many other families, mine included.

Some folks find cleaning relaxing. Not me, until I set up a cleaning routine. Here are some tips for setting up your own cleaning schedule:

October is another “No Spending Month”

Will you join me?

It’s a little bit later than my usual blog post. But today, I had a very good reason: I had to store all my groceries and other the other things bought while visiting my family last week. And how much I had to put away! Tons! After all, I flew back with 40 kgs (88 lbs). To my defence, not of it was for me. Some things were presents for upcoming birthdays or requests from friends.

Meal options for the busy you

Like most of us, I’m really looking forward to the long weekend. The last few weeks were rather packed with work, travel and fun activities. A few peaceful days with my loved ones and without email will be great.

A number of my friends are in a similar position. A little be of quiet time to reflect. One friend is regularly looking at her life and is making changes to improve it. Having started a new role recently, she’s now facing the daily cooking dilemma. Going out, ordering in, picking something up from the supermarket or making something from scratch?

Are you also struggling with the daily question “Honey, what’s for dinner”? Whatever your family situation, meal planning can take a load of your shoulders and give you some peace of mind.

Time savers = Life savers?

Do you ever have the feeling that time just flies by? This happened to me this last weekend. It was a fun packed one. An organising job, meeting my friends, playing a decent round of golf and finally having purchased new bedroom curtains. Luckily, I didn’t have to do any of the boring or time consuming activities. I’m very grateful for having found some time saving shortcuts, making my life a lot easier. Here are some of my favourite time savers = life savers:

  • Automate your bills and savings. Set up a direct debit or standing order and have your mortgage/rent, utility, TV and phone bills paid directly. While you’re at it, create a regular transfer on pay day and put however much you can afford to into a savings account.
