40 bags in 40 days

The ultimate Spring challenge

Ash Wednesday (1 March) is the beginning of lent and Christians are giving up something. Lent lasts for 40 days until Maundy Thursday (the Thursday before Easter) and is generally seen as a period reflection, self-examination but also improvement. Some Christians are thus giving up an indulgence like chocolate, while others give up a bad habit like smoking. Why not use lent 2017 to participate 40 bags in 40 days, regardless of your religious beliefs?

40 bags in 40 days will help you let go of thing you no longer want or need.

For the next 40 days, we’ll be tackling different areas in your house. Whether that’s the coffee table in your living room, the condiments in your fridge or the dried-out paint in your art studio, we’ll work on them.

Use this tracker to decide which areas you want to focus on.

40 bags in 40 days

Each day, you work on one of the areas you’ve picked. Review what’s there and ask yourself:

  • Do I still use it?
  • Do I need it?
  • Do I love it or does it bring me joy?
  • If it’s broken, would I use it once it’s fixed?
  • If it needs stitching, would I use/wear it once it’s been mended?

If you answer “no” to these questions, put it in a bag.

Over the next 40 days, you’ll declutter your home and let go of all the items which bring you down. You’ll create space and gain freedom. You’ll also feel relief by finally deciding to let go of this clutter items.

If there are any items you can donate, do so! There are a number of charities which will accept in kind donations. Put these bags in your car and drive them to the charity.

If there are any items you can sell within the next 2-3 weeks, do so! If the next flea market is further away, chances are your bags will become a space filler and thus clutter again.

Will you join me in the 40 bags in 40 days challenge?

Until next time,
Agni
