Why I’m looking forward to this week by myself

A whole week to myself

When was the last time you had your house to yourself? For me, it’s been some time and this week, my loved ones are on travel. I’ve the entire house to myself! And I’m loving it! Don’t get me wrong. I do miss my loved ones. I’m also loving peace and quiet.

No constant vacuuming

If you’ve ever met me, you know of my shoulder length brown hair. At home, we’ve white tiles. You can see where I’m going with this, can’t you?! Add my loved ones and you’ll constantly find hair on the floor. Especially after drying my hair, it just seems to be everywhere! This week, I will not vacuum every day!

No kitchen clutter

Yes, I actually prepare my breakfast at home most days of the week. It’s cheap and easy to throw a banana, some oats, cinnamon, yoghurt and milk into a blender and get a filling shake. If working on a project, I’ll probably also bring my lunch. All this leaves our kitchen with dirty dishes. Multiply that with our loved ones, add the same amount for dinner and you end up with a filled sink and plenty of stuff floating around the counter tops.

At one stage, I thought my loved ones were trying to start a competition of empty water bottles on our sink. You can imagine how I felt about that! Not! Happy!

How many bottles can you keep in a week by myself

No guilty conscience

This week is going to be busy work week. Besides a number of projects during the day, there’re 2 networking events plus an early morning coffee meeting. By all loved ones being on travel, I don’t have to feel guilty about late nights (well, evenings).

No temptations

I can even fit in another gym work out and don’t have to decline eating out. Trying to lose weight and watching what I eat sucks! At the same time, it doesn’t take much to twist my arm and watch the footie outside. With that comes dinner or some other (unnecessary) snack. Having the week by myself works actually quite well for my diet aka healthier eating.

But also no hello

As much as I like peace and quiet, I can’t wait to see my loved ones again. Ever heard of the saying “distance makes the heart grow fonder”? That’s certainly true for us. I can’t wait to see them again and hear how their time away was!

What are you doing when your loved ones are away? When you have your house to yourself? For a few hours, a day or even a week? I’m looking forward to reading your story!

Until next time,
Agni

  1. OMG – how timely your post is!!! I am “HOME ALONE”….my 4 loved ones are all out for 2 days (not a whole week, but, for me, 2 days feels like a week!) Your post resonates strongly with me this week! My house is clean, all the laundry is done! For 2 whole days, it is only my clothes! Every bed is made, every dish is washed and my floors, Dear GOD, my floors are clean and sticky-free! I am reveling in the time I have to prepare for a 4th of July brunch we are hosting on Wednesday – and that is the only thing I need to think about for the next 2 days. Oh yes, and I miss my family…can’t wait to see them………in 2 days. ha!

    • Love your feedback, Kelly! It brought such a big smile on my face. Hope you’ve had a great reunion – after 2 days 🙂 Agni
