Organise your bedroom

Create your zen bedroom

Ever stepped into your bedroom, completely wrecked but couldn’t fall asleep when laying in your bed? There were clothes on your bed, books and magazines laying on your nightstand, or maybe dirty laundry on the floor? All you could think of was this messy bedroom.

A peaceful bedroom will let you enjoy sleep like a baby and who of us would turn quality sleep away? I can’t afford to toss and turn just to wake up tired and possibly also grumpy. You can take a few simple steps and create your own calm and serene bedroom that you’ve been dreaming of. My top 5 tips for organising your bedroom and getting that solid night’s sleep are:

  1. Focus on the purpose of your bedroom. A bedroom is for sleeping and maybe one more thing. It’s not to be to your study, kids play room or storage room. Remove everything that doesn’t belong into your bedroom. You may want to make this your decluttering project for the week or months.
  2. Make your bed. This should be one of the first tasks of the day. Not only will you start the day with one task already accomplished. A made bed also brings peace to the room. When you return after a stressful day at work, seeing the comfy bed with nothing on it, it’s waiting for you to jump in!
  3. Pick up things laying on the floor. In Feng Shui, clutter on the floor also impacts your mood and drags you down. If you have dirty clothes on the floor, put them in the hamper. Put your magazines and books back in the bookshelf and only keep one out. While you may read a couple of books at the same time, you can only read one book at one time.
  4. Keep a notepad and pen in the nightstand. If you need to write down an idea at night, you don’t have to reach to your phone and get tempted to check your emails, Facebook, Pinterest, the news about Michael Phelps’ next Olympic medal (what a guy!) and so on.
  5. Reduce electronics to the minimum. A traditional battery operated alarm clock may be a great alternative to an electronic which displays the time all the time. Ever thought of leaving your phone in a different room for the night? Unless you’re a doctor, fire fighter or otherwise on call to help people in need (sorry, helping people in the office doesn’t really belong to this group), you don’t need to sleep with your phone. Your emails can wait until the next day.

If you’re into decorating your bedroom, you can find plenty of inspiration from sites like Houzz or House Beautiful. In my home, you’ll see matching night stand lights, some candles and large prints. The colour scheme is based on green nature and earth tones which for me signifies tranquillity. At the end of the day, you’ll need to find your own preference in colour scheme to find that peace in an organised bedroom.

How are you keeping your bedroom organised and decluttered? What changes have you made to create your own revitalising oasis within your bedroom? I can’t wait to read your comments!

Until next time,
Agni
