Who’s your coach?

Why you should have a coach

Have you ever worked with a coach? Noticed how much more you got done? As you know, I’m a trained coach and am providing support to various high flying clients in Dubai and the Middle East. Seeing my clients change their behaviours and making it stick or achieving that career goal that they wanted so much, it’s so rewarding!

Are you struggling to make the improvements in your life which you are longing for? It’s time to consider hiring a coach. No matter what your goal is, you can find trained coaches with experience in that area. Let it be career coaching, life coaching (this seems to capture everything on the personal front), wellness coaching (improve your overall health), you name it. A coach can be a great asset for you to achieve your goals and there are more advantages:

Structured self-improvement. A coach will support you and your journey to improving yourself or working on a specific project. Your coach will encourage you and high five you for your achievements. Your coach will help you to use these sessions and build skills to improve yourself without using them in the future.

Defines your goals. Sometimes, we know what we want but don’t know how to get there. Does that sound familiar? A coach will help you define your goals. Your coach will not tell you what to do. They will, however, enable you to find what you need for you as the next steps.

Increased accountability. When working on a goal, you’ll need to be disciplined enough to go through the different stages and finish it. If it’s a longer project (e.g. losing weight or changing careers), you may be tempted to give up (I just had an ice cream with lots of whipped cream!) or just let it slur for a while. Your coach will hold you accountable to the goals you’ve set yourself, increasing your success rate.

Coaching is non-judgemental. Your loved ones, friends and office mates often give advice without considering what’s right for you. They see what works for them, ignoring your needs. They may also tell you what to do. A coach will work with you and let you define the next steps and find the solution suitable for you.

Expand your horizon. Working with a coach can be challenging and it’s their job to push you further. If you continued the same way, you would get the same results. Your coach will help you see matters from a different perspective and get a new view.

These are 5 great reasons to hire a coach. Before you’ll just book any coach, check their credentials. There are many training providers and coaches who’ve been on a 2-day-course and are calling themselves a coach. Being a coach requires more, including solid understanding of coaching principles, continuous development and adhering to ethical behaviour. Organisations like the International Coach Federation (ICF) and the Association for Coaching (AC) set the quality standards and ensure their members are following best practices.
